Convergence Bench
for Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum

Project type:      Group Project with
                       Niki (Lighting Designer)
                       Francis Law (Fine art artist)

                       Koen Merkx (Industrial Design Engineer)
Location:          Hong Kong

Dr Sun Yat-sen 孫中山 was considered one of the main inspirers behind the Xinhair Revolution of October 1911, which overthrew the last imperial dynasty in China, for which he enjoys respect in both the People's Republic of China and Taiwan.

The 5 Elements Bench is designed to elaborate the concept of "Unity is strength" that Dr Sun believed in. Five elements mean the relationship between the different elements in nature and the life force, or "qi," that flows through them. The basic elements are wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.

Upcycled materials
The key wooden structures are upcycled from 50-year-old chairs donated by the historical Shun Hing Restaurant which was pitifully shut down in late 2016 with many locals’ sweet memories.
